Easy beef and bell pepper stir-fry

A very easy beef and bell pepper stir-fry for those Chinese cravings.

Going to a REAL Chinese restaurant is not a friendly expenditure on my budget and this beef and bell pepper stir-fry makes up for that.  This isn’t the authentic beef stir-fry you will get in a real Chinese restaurant as it is missing essential Chinese cooking ingredients like the Chinese cooking wine, the fish sauce, etc. But I like to pretend it’s Chinese as it smells great and taste good to satisfy those unnecessary Chinese restaurant food cravings plus it makes for a quick meal.

Ingredients
  • 1 pound beef
  • 3-4 cloves garlic
  • 1 tablepoons grated ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon grains of paradise AKA wessa or subsitute for black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 large bell pepper cut into desired shapes/sizes
  • 1 medium size onion cut into desired shapes/sizes
  • 1 tablespoon ordinary soy sauce optional
  • ½ - 1 tablespoon water
  • Salt as required
Instructions
  1. Cut beef into stripes, making sure to cut along the grain. Grind garlic, ginger and grains of paradise together, and marinate beef strips in the mixture with salt for about 15-30 minutes or more.

Heat oil in a wok, add the beef strips, cook till its all cooked through.

Add the soy sauce, bell pepper and onions and stir fry for about a minute or two. Serve with boiled rice.

Recipe Notes

Cut beef along the grain: watch the beef closely, you will notice the meat has patterns in one direction. Cutting along the grain ensures the meat is tender, marinating longer also helps the meat to tenderise.
