Kelewele is ripe plantains that is mixed with spices and fried. You get sweetness from the ripe plantains and heat from the spices. Mind, you it is for the strong at spice. You can cut down on the spices in this recipe, you can make it simple with just ginger, pepper and onions.

Ingredients
  • 2 ripe plantains
  • 2 inches ginger
  • 1 teaspoon anise seed
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 4-6 grains of selim
  • 1/2 small onion
  • Chilli pepper as required
  • 2 dashes salt
  • Oil for frying
Instructions
  1. Remove plantain peels and cut into desired sizes. Blend or grind or the spices together. Pour over plantains and add salt.

  2. Heat oil in a deep fryer. When hot, drop in plantains. Fry till plantains are golden. Serve with roasted groundnuts.
